Slavomír Horák holds a Ph.D. in International Area Studies from the Institute of International Studies, Charles University in Prague. He currently has a tenure track position as a Research Fellow at the Department of Russian and East European Studies of the Institute of International Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague. His research covers political, social and economic issues in the former USSR, with a focus on Central Asia, particularly on Turkmenistan's domestic issues, informal politics in the region and state- and nation-building. He is the author of several books on internal developments in Central Asia and Afghanistan as well as numerous articles published in Czech, Russian and English scholarly journals. He has provided many expert consultations, mostly for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Bertelsmann Transformation Index and other entities. He is also regarded as an expert on Turkmenistan for the Fahamu Refugee Program.
